On average, 43 per cent of the total dose.\u00a0<\/p><p>It is a radioactive, but chemically inert noble gas that comes from the disintegration of uranium naturally occurring in the soil, especially granite. The human being does not detect it since it is characterized by being colourless, odourless\u00a0and tasteless.<\/p><p>The greatest exposure usually occurs in the home. The radon gas is filtered through the construction materials that are in contact with the ground. In case of a combination of smoking and high doses of radon gas, the risk of lung cancer is estimated to be 25 times higher.<\/p><p>However, it is also associated with other types of cancer. If high radon values are detected, <strong>measures should be taken to reduce exposure<\/strong>, such as remediation, mitigation or the installation of radon reduction systems.<\/p><p>Previously, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.boe.es\/diario_boe\/txt.php?id=BOE-A-2019-18528\">Royal Decree 732\/2019 of December 20<\/a> included in the\u00a0Technical Building Code (CTE) measures to reduce radon gas access to housing. Specifically, it established basic measures to avoid exceeding the annual reference level of 300 Bq\/m3.<\/p><p>The CTE measures are mandatory for new buildings and also for changes of use or renovations in buildings located in the risk zones shown in the following map.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-31be61f elementor-widget elementor-widget-image\" data-id=\"31be61f\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"image.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img decoding=\"async\" width=\"800\" height=\"515\" src=\"https:\/\/www.carlessuria.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/mapa-gas-radon-CTE-en.jpg\" class=\"attachment-large size-large wp-image-33297\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.carlessuria.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/mapa-gas-radon-CTE-en.jpg 845w, https:\/\/www.carlessuria.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/mapa-gas-radon-CTE-en-300x193.jpg 300w, https:\/\/www.carlessuria.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2024\/05\/mapa-gas-radon-CTE-en-768x494.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-cbcda6e elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"cbcda6e\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>In buildings located in risk zone I, one of the following protective measures is mandatory:<\/p><ol><li>Protective barrier between the building and the ground<\/li><li>Ventilated air chamber between the building and the ground.<\/li><\/ol>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-7bc7c48 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"7bc7c48\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>In buildings located in risk zone II, the protective barrier must be provided, plus one of the following measures:<\/p><ol><li><span style=\"background-color: transparent;\">Ventilated air chamber between the building and the ground.<\/span><\/li><li>A depressurization system that extracts gases from the ground.<\/li><\/ol>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-1bc75b1 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"1bc75b1\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h4 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">RADON GAS MEASUREMENT<\/h4>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-1f46f32 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"1f46f32\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>The reference level of the regulation (300Bq\/m\u00b3) is higher than the limit recommended by the WHO (100 Bq\/m\u00b3) to prevent lung cancer, and also exceeds the threshold established by other European countries around us (such as the United Kingdom, Ireland, Sweden and Norway).<\/p><p>Our recommendation is to measure radon gas in all those locations where the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.arcgis.com\/apps\/SimpleViewer\/index.html?appid=a3a435cfb6114e21ad03a5ac2961d8a8\">radon gas map<\/a> shows that there is a risk of exceeding the 100 Bq\/m\u00b3 threshold indicated by the WHO, mainly in Galicia, Extremadura, Madrid and in large areas of Catalonia, Andalusia, Aragon, Canary Islands and Navarra. There are more radon gas maps, such as the <a href=\"https:\/\/ars.els-cdn.com\/content\/image\/1-s2.0-S0265931X17307087-gr3_lrg.jpg\">European map<\/a> or the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.epa.gov\/radon\/epa-map-radon-zones\">map of the United States of America<\/a>.<\/p><p>Radon gas can be measured by direct-indication monitors and with short-term measurements under unfavorable conditions, usually about 24 hours without any ventilation. In these situations, constructive measures or mechanised ventilation must be carried out. They can be summarised in the following actions:<\/p><ol><li>Ventilation of the floor slab.<\/li><li>Mechanical removal of radon gas from the slab or basement.<\/li><li>Waterproofing of the floor screed.<\/li><li>Mechanized ventilation of the house<\/li><\/ol>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-7411ef2 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"7411ef2\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>These are deep and costly remediation projects. Long-term measurements of at least three months are recommended.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-33
